Sports change life like we never knew it could
COVID-19 as more or less taken away everything I love in life. Going out to restaurants / bars and watching sports.
Now that I can't go out to eat with my friends and family I am forced to learn how to cook for myself. The closest thing to going out I have during this time is when I get to go to the grocery store once a week. Which upon arrival I tend to have to wait in line outside because of capacity regulations to maintain social distancing.
While not being able to go out to eat may be bad, I think a life with sports and no restaurants is considerably better than vice versa. Sports simply put is just another form of entertainment. Arguably the best entertainment us Americans have. Not only is there something to watch every day, there are so many news stories that come from each league/team/industry/sports media company. With all sports leagues being put on hold for now, these sports media companies like ESPN or Barstool Sports have their best source of content creation gone. In addition to sports media companies being hurt by all sports being put on hold, casinos and sports books are being hurt even more. They are seeing no income and won't see any income for the foreseeable future.
This is the longest amount of time in the history of life that sports have been cancelled for. The only league that has a set plan for the future is the PGA which posted a schedule for the rest of their season, noting it is subject to change.
So if I can ask anything out of the other sports leagues out there it would be: Be more like the PGA. Give us fans some form of hope. Be transparent about your plans like the PGA. Sports media companies need content. Sports books need content. I can't continue to watch reruns of classic sports games I already know the outcome to.
