It's August there is not a cloud in the sky, you just spent the day at the beach bronzing and drinking michelob ultras. You're absolutely cashed as you get into bed with your S/O at a modest 12PM. It's 4AM what are you doing?

What if I told you you were up and showered getting in the car to go wait outside a closed Montauk Downs for hours.

Because this is a real sequence of events from my life. This can be you if you want to play Montauk Downs in the summer on a weekend but you have no tee time.

As me and my uncle were driving to the downs we saw people leaving the bars in Montauk. We actually saw some kid getting handcuffed to a light pole by two cops. The whole thing was a trip. We get to the downs where all the lights are off. There is a line of cars waiting at the bag drop as this is a tradition at Montauk Downs. They let out golfers from 6AM to 7AM that did not have tee times and it all depends on what place in line you are in upon arrival.

You could tell that some of the guys waiting were still drunk just by the looks of them. I think the idea of going out and staying at a bar until 3/4, getting in your car and parking at Montauk Downs waiting until 6AM and then just going to get a quick round of 18 in is a full send.

I will say that this routine is not for everyone but it was very cool to do at least once. It sounds awful but if you are with your boys, it is a good time. Im definitely a morning tee time guy anyway. Going with this method, you get out there early and finish your round of golf before 9AM. The pace of play is fast because all these guys are good. You can get a round of 18 in and still have the rest of your day, which is a huge plus for anyone who has friends or family that want to see you that weekend.

If you golf Montauk Downs a lot during the summer you know that rounds can take up to 5 hours +, which nobody wants. The worst part about golf IMO, is waiting on the tee box, it totally screws up my momentum. With this method, you experience non of that because only the psycho golf lovers are out there this early.

All in all I highly recommend doing this if you are in a pinch for a tee time.
